Okay, after spend a total of 10 + hours on this thing I decided to post on here to see what you guys have to say.
I recently busted my oil pan driving like a tard and hit a dip going way too fast. The impact was so loud it sounded like a BIG "pop". When I took the darn thing off I noticed the upper oil pan was broken too; along with the oil feed line.
So I got all the parts yesterday and started wrenching at it. Once I got all the bolts off that held the lower I began to remove the upper oil pans 18, 10 mm bolts. And then removed the three torx size 10 bolts that connect it to the tranny. Once all the bolts where off I started to yank on the upper pan to dislocated it from the bottom of the engine, but it won't budge. Then I managed to wedge a flat head screw driver in and worked my around the pan.
I then decided I'd look in my crappy chiltons manual and see what it had to say. To my suprise it said I need to remove the fan, fan crowl, and motor mounts, along with the exhaust manifold. So I did. Except the exhaust manifold; those nuts are a pain the you know what to get off. Anyways, if I skip un-bolting the exhaust manifold, the only thing that will happen is it will just have to flex when it's needed too. After all that crap, I then gave yanking on the upper oil pan another try, but still it wouldn't budge.
I have all the replacement parts to look at for reference and I still can't noticed anything that could be holding it. I was thinking just because it's prolly the original pan that was installed at the factory by BMW, it might be a little snug. I really don't know what to do at this point.
I even broke several pieces off the old upper oil pan trying to pry it away from the motor. The only thing I think that could be holding it to the engine could be these two bolts, that I don't know how to get too.
They are #5 on the realoem.com link I've included; there are two of them next to each other. But you can't see them both because of the design of the diagram. Anyhoo, I would like feedback from someone that has had the same problem or can give me an idea as to what to do. I'm gonna try taking off the tranny and removing those 2 gay bolts tomorrow. I'm just too tired to do anymore work.
Thanks in advance for all the feedback,
James
