noise at 3k rpm in every gear

There is weird squeaky noise that lasts for about a second around 3000 rpm in every gear. It happens %75 of the time. I can't tell where its coming from.

It kind of sounds like a squeaky belt.
I would appreciate any insight into this, as it has been pissing me off for some time now.

Check for loose or glazed belts. If that doesn't help squirt a little water on one of the pulleys for say the alternator belt and see if the noise goes away temporarily. If no go try the PS pulley, then the AC pulley. At least that may narrow it down to which system, if any, is the issue.

If it was a belt making the noise, wouldn't it do it regardless of whether the car is in gear or not? The noise only occurs when the car is in gear and accelerates past 3k rpm.

      Thanks for the input.

At what rpm do you change gear? You might be shifting at around 3k and that could cause the noise from belt-slipping.

I do usually change gears in the ballpark of 3k rpm.

So I should try what vpilarrt suggested?

Belts are cheap. Replace them all (especially if they are more than 2 yrs old) instead of trying to figure out if they are any good.
