    water leaks= not fixed

so i was reading the thread below about water leaks, and it shows how to fix the leakes that are in your rear floor boards. well mine is in the front drivers side, and a little in the passangers side. the leak in the drivers side floor stays wet for about 4 days after it rains so i am thinking it is a slow leak. the passangers side drys in about 2 days. iv already checked the "grills" right below the winshield (i heard this could be the problem). and i also heard it could be the "elephant trunk" sorry but im not exactly sure what that is . i also think it may be my sun roof but im not exactly sure how, where and why it would be leaking because it dosnt drip on the interior at all, its just under the carpet.

so if anyone has any idea what this could be and how to fix it would be GREATLY appreciated, because i already have floor rot on both sides of were the carpet is wet :(.

The drain snoot is inside the engine compartment next to the battery tray. This drains the water out of the cowl. If clogged, water could back up and drain through the heater box into the interior.

Test out the sunroof drains- open the roof and use a cup to pour some water down each drain hole. Verify that it makes it outside the car.

Your carpet is wet. Are you sure it is rain water and not coolant? If coolant, it could be a heater cor or valve body. Check to make sure the rubber drains to the heater/AC box are all connected to their drains.

Many times when the windsheild seal is failing you will find water in the glovebox.

Find the source of the leak and get it fixed. I'd recommend pulling up the carpet and making sure things are clean and dry underneath. I just found a rust hole on my M3 that was sandwiched between the carpet/foam pad on top and the heat sheild/insulation underneath. Never would have found it except I was stripping the car for a repaint.

+1...if your heater core is leaking or heater valve, your carpets will be wet.

best thing you can do to source leaks is to take a hose to the car inch by inch, and examine. Thats' how i was able to figure out my trunk leaks.

thanks guys, i will have to go around with a hose like you said. but i am pretty sure it isnt my sun roof because it is only my front drivers side carpet (unless the sunroof drain is near here and i dont know it) so im thinking it is what steve said first about the cowel. im just not sure how to get behing my fire wall to see if it is clogged, and i really dont want to pull my dash. i already pulled off the plate that covers my blower fan and tryed to look in there but i couldnt get the whole fan harness out to acctually get down near the heater core.
