I have what I believe to be an M88 engine from a e24 m6. It is my fathers engine, and we are putting it in his e24 635csi. I was curious about some of the visual cues that are different about the engine. I know this one has a double roller timing chain. I don't see much talk on here about the m88, yet i see the s38 everywhere. Is it because the m88 is just less plentiful? I know it was the s38's predecessor. Just wondering why i've never seen anyone on here with an m88.

Not as powerful and more rare then the s38b36. They all have the dual row chain.

I've got the motor over at a bmw master techs place. He's going through it and checking it out. I want my dad to be able to get in this thing and drive it without any major hassles. I'm really excited to get this thing together. We just put a 3.73 lsd in it too. The original m30 had 330,000 on it before cylinder #5 quit. He's got upgraded factory brakes from an m5 and a seven. Dinan suspension, and some poly bushings. M5 seats. All in all its a nice car, we just need a nose piece for it and some new kidneys.sigpicComment
