Override for power convertible top?

I have a 1993 325ic (yes... e30, not e36) and the power top function hasn't been working for about a week. Is there an override to pressing the switch (something like the hood latch through the front grill trick)?? I have a hard top, but its becoming summer weather and I really don't want to have to leave it on just to mitigate the small chance of rain during summer.

If anyone knows a trick to pop the convertible top storage lid without the use of the electronics, please let me know.
