    SSK popularity contest

I read the Shift Lever and Short Shifters thread and it seems like everybody has a different opinion on what their favorite short shift kit is, so I thought I'd just post a poll so see which one is most popular with the r3v croud. In the poll I put in the lever ratios and the part numbers.

I'm gonna order one within the next week and I can't really decide between the z3 2.8 and the z4 2.5.

i can vouch for the z4 2.5l. Its not knotchy and its noticbly shorter than stock. I have driven a 87' 325is w/ that lever and I have a 91' 318is w/ that lever in it. W/ the 325is we had to bend the selector rod and w/ my 318is you don't have to bend or do anything special.

1.9 is the best compromise, almost as easy to shift as stock, but still much faster.

I don't understand why anybody would go for a z3 1.9 or Z4 2.5. The 1.9 is the longest throw out of all of them, and the 2.8 is the slightest bit shorter in height, but with a much shorter throw. The Z4 2.5 is just as short in height as the Z4 3.0, but it has a longer throw....

The best two would have to be the z3 2.8/3.0 or the Z3-M.

yeah, if all you want is short throw, then you are correct. However there are some people who will sacrifice a few mm of travel for more mechanical leverage, as well as having a shifter that isn't below the center console. To each his own, I've had almost every lever installed at one point or another (z4 3.0, z4 2.5, M Roadster, 1.9), and the 1.9 is by far the best for me.

No bmw will ever shift as well as a modern japanese car, so I quit trying to achieve that.

Do you have to bend the selector rod for a 1.9L install in a 325i?

I like my Z4 2.5. I didn't want that super notchy crap. This one is nice.

Tony just installed my 1.9 tonight while I handed him tools, haha. I LOVE it, I think I made the right choice. It sits high and the throw is much much shorter than it was, but not very notchy. I highly recommend it.

Add X5 3.0 to the list! Ive had mine installed for quite a while now. I like it because it is significantly quicker than stock, but it is also quite a bit taller and closer to the steering wheel. Very cool IMHO

Why would anybody want a Z3 1.9 lever? Maybe because they want faster shifts...

Even though the 1.9 lever isn't as short as the Z3 3.0 or the Z4 levers, it will still provide faster shifts because it is less notchy.

I have the Z3 3.0 lever, and although it is nice and short, it is too notchy. I will be putting in the 1.9 lever once I swap in my new motor.

I love my 1.9 Kit. Smooth, Fast throws.

I can't stand the super short levers. Way too notchy and they look stupid in our cars.
