    Ok feeling defeated here

simple starter swap right? nope not working, starter is fine brand new tested it before I left shop. Bosch re-manufacturered unit standard e36 setup.

wiring has not been altered using an e36 transmission. 12.5v static battery fully charged not old either. flywheel is an e36 setup and turns freely.

click click click after I turn the key sounds like a dead battery but I know it's not as i robbed from peter to start paul.

    Part out?

Can you put it in a vice and test it again? That's odd - if the solenoid is clicking it should spin. Have you tried smacking it? Or rocking it in gear?

Tried smacking it and have not rocked in gear as the car is on stands. No plugs in the engine to allow it to spin freely too. been a bit since car has run.

Rest your starter against the block. grab some jumper wire and ground the starter somewhere and take a little video or find a friend

See if that pinion is jumping out.

sounds like a bad ground to me though, which, it most likely is.

I have tested the starter. When I buy a rebuilt part at a local parts house I tend to have them checked prior to installing it. I know the starter solenoid is working properly and pushes the gear out. It has a good ground as I checked the continuity yesterday when I had an issue with the old starter that was on it's last legs.

Ok but have you checked it on the car? I've had starters that worked on the bench at the shop but not on the car even though I thought I had the wiring right. Check it if it's actually working with this "primative" method.

                  Clicking from the starter means:

                  a) a dead or bad battery
                  b) a problem with the primary power or ground connections
                  c) a bad starter

If the replacement is a reman from Bosch, the odd of it being (c) are pretty low. But if it wasn't rebuilt by Bosch those odds change dramatically. The clue as to that is what the rebuilt starter cost an what kind of box it came in. A black box with Bosch on it is a hint and a cost greater than $200 is another clue.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Don't drop the transmission until you have tried another starter with the same result.

When I look up starters on AutoZone's site I see reman parts, but they don't show one rebuilt by Bosch. Did it come in a balck box with Bosch on the box and cost over $200? If not it is a generic reman and I've gone through several of those before I found one that worked. I no longer use anything but a factory reman for alternators or starters. Too many bad experiences...

was in a silver and black box. 160 was my cost after saving 30 on line. Might warranty a S52 unit I have that weak already too in my 332.

Cleaned everything yet again, cleaned all grounds and and few other things. Thinking it was a combination of bad ground contacts.

So did you get it working? I can probably get you a starter from one of the guys up here if you wanted to swap it out to check first...and don't feel too defeated, I've been attempting to remove the bolt to my CPS for three nights now. That's right small bolt 3, Pete 0.
