    (E36 question) Alternators

Sorry if this is a newb question...

The alternator in my brother's 94 325i died. It was an 80 amp. There was a local alternator for sale for a pretty good deal, but it turns out that it was from an e36 m3, which I'm going to guess has more amperage. Is there any danger in running the m3 alternator in my bro's m50 325i?

Pretty good chance it's the same 80 amp unit. Could possibly be the 140 amp alternator, but regardless, both are interchangeable. My S52 came with an 80 amp on it, swapped the 140 that came on my M52 onto it without any issue.

    Keep it slideways!!

Nope, you're fine. Just make sure to use the right pulley. I swapped my dead 80 for a 140 - works great.
