my e30 is groaning, any ideas?

When driving my car 30mph and under I get a strange groaning sound while going straight down the road. Almost like a wind noise but I'm pretty sure it isn't. The sound is not constant but happens more often at and 5mph and 30mph. Sounds like it's coming from the front but it doesn't sound like a wheel bearing or the stewing rack. Give me a few and I'll get film of it.

You car rule out or implicate the power steering by removing the belt and driving the car for a while. If the noise is gone, the cause is the power steering system. If not, check the wheel bearings and the remaining belt driven parts.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Boy that sounds like what happened to me with my diff ... shortly thereafter it graduated to a gravelly sound ... I originally thought it was a wheel bearing too.

The thing is its only when i'm going straight, that's why I didn't think power steering.

That is totally your wheel bearing!

It is not a very hard job to do, but you do need a thin walled 32mm socket (from memory) to get it off and a damn huge breaker bar to get in on! The Bently has the torque listed at something crazy like 240nm+

It has been a while since I have done one but should take you around 45 mins if you haven't done one before :)

              Cheers

I have a video of the sound, will upload, since I had it fully inspected a little while ago.
