brake lights indicator on check panel keep coming on

happens maybe 5/10 times when I initially start my car (89 325I), the check panel light goes off as soon as I hit the brake pedal. I had a 90 325I that did this too, anyone know why its doing this and how to fix it if something's wrong?

The check panel light should come on if you aren't holding the brake pedal when you start the car.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

      Yep.

You need to hit the brakes in order for it to know that the lights are good.

Hey jim, in my m3 if i start the car with my foot on the brake pedal, it wont clear the check panel, but........if i start the car with my foot off the pedal and then hit the pedal, it clears.

Think its an issue with the chech lights module?

I'm not sure how it works in the M3. It may need to see both states of brake lights to turn off the warning.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
