My No Start story, Need your help

I'm Convinced this car hates me. Little bit of background...

    1988 E30 Auto Convertible.
Bought the car a month ago. Came with 2 keys, one for doors and trunk and the other for the ignition. My bag with both keys was stolen a week later and I hadn't changed the title over to my name yet because it failed emissions. So no keys, no title. BMW wouldnt give me a key without my name on the title plus I'm pretty sure the ignition was changed already so I ordered a new tumbler, housing switch and keys. ($65 on ebay). Drilled out the tumbler :drink:, got steering wheel and covers off pulled ignition switch off the housing and turned switch with screwdriver. Car turns to on, radio works, wipers work. No Start. Ok fine...

Put the new new unit in last night with new switch, still no start. Still have power everywhere else.

Checked all fuses, they look ok.

    Questions
    1. The car was locked when I lost the keys (including trunk). The only reason I could get in is because the drivers door lock doesnt work. Is there some sort of immobilizer that kicks in?

    2. I accidently tapped the battery with a wrench while changing the wiper arms and saw spark. The fuses look ok but I've read there is an inline fuse that may have gone?

Any help is appreciated. Have been riding the bus for 2 weeks :(

Is there 12v at the coil when ign is on? Does the fuelpump run? Got spark?
if so, check if theres power at both leads on the starter.

I haven't checked for spark (it was just me). I don't have an Ohm meter to check the coil. Car ran a little rich but started fine before keys were stolen. I heard the fuel pump turn on. Car does nothing when I turn the key to start. Not even a click. All dash lights just stay on like the key is still in the ON position.

If the keys looked "just like another key" theres not supposed to be any immobilizer.
This is a late model, right? Pump is supposed to build pressure and then stop when ign is turned on.
Sounds like theres a wiering issue at the ignswitch, or at the gear switch.

If I understand correctly, the starter isn't operating. The first check would be to see if power is present on the start lead (black/yellow) of the starter solenoid when the key is turned to start. A test light will tell. If not, start tracing back towards the ignition switch to find out why.

FYI: The DME controls the fuel pump and only runs the pump when it sees timing data from a rotating engine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks guys, I will borrow a test light and check power to the solenoid tonight.
