Fault code 1444 (no fault) after 1222

    Hey all,
I turned my 1991 325i off this afternoon for just a second and when i went to turn it back on it just cranked and cranked and refused to start. I have had a similar problem, where my engine cranks until you pump the gas, for quite a while so i was not surprised at the new development. To attempt to find out if there was any new faults in the computer i did i stomp test, previously the car had read 1222, and the computer read 1444. Next i tried to turn the car over and it started like nothing. Immediately i rushed home and looked up engine code 1444 and to my surprise found that it was the no fault or no error code, but how could that possibly be? If anyone has any idea what this could possibly be i would appreciate the help.
    Thanks

The 1222 code is a Lambda fault. The possible causes of that are a bad O2 sensor or an upset in the A/F ratio. Understand that the O2 sensor is a scheduled maintenance item with a replacement interval of 100k. If that applies, replace the sensor. The most common cause of an upset in the A/F ratio are intake leaks. Have a smoke test run and fix the leaks it reveals. Other possibilities exist, but until intake leaks can be ruled out or are fixed it is pointless to investigate other possibilities.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
