My Citroen was 2.0 LTL and there is a limit to how steady you can be in a DD, especially if you still have a pulse. Turn to talk to a passenger or sneeze & you can find yourself in the next lane...lol

I figured that was the case in your car.

I have a regular e36 rack in my car and it feels right to me. The stock E30 rack is really slow, you get used to it if it's all you drive but switching back and forth between my cars really highlights the situation.

With the E36 rack in, i don't feel the need to go quicker (Z3)

Crap, I just threw one of those away.

One of the nice things about power steering on the track is that it also reduces
the hit your hands take when you pummel something like a curb-
the shuttle valve doesn't care whether the turn force is coming from the
steering wheels or the rack, it just tries to do what the steering wheel is doing...

Hydraulics 101..get a variable output pump. I sold Toyotas when they were made from beer cans and I think they had them then.

Someone should do this mod and report back ;)

Your turning horsepower goes down definitely.

I've thought of a bypass type pressure regulator and of fitting a larger pump pulley. But haven't yet tried to do anything along those lines.

I've heard numbers from 4-6hp, but what I saw on a dyno was more like 1-2hp. Which is on the order of the repeatability/uncertainty in dyno runs. So I'd have say the power advantage is pretty much nothing.

I deleted the power steering on my race car and have run it like that for a long time. But I've recently learned that really isn't a great idea. The lack of power steering increases driver fatigue and means having to move your hands around on the steering wheel for leverage, though deleting PS does increase steering feel. AFAIK, all pro road race cars have some form of power steering. I've put the system back on, but one of the small rack lines is leaking and will have to be changed.

What I'd really like is "dial back" the pump for less assist.

I'm a twig and I don't miss ps at all.
