    Rattling Under The car.

I've had this rattling under my car for a long time now. I had thought it was my motor mount, but when I replaced that, it still had the sound.

The sound seems to be comming from under my car, near the tranny. I could be wrong about the location though. Theres nothing visibily loose, But then again, I could be wrong. Any thoughts?

    loose cat heat shield?

Is the rattle speed or RPM dependent?

is it a clutch out only, could be a bad bearing
is it at idle only, could be the cat
      ...could be alot of stuff

It happens when I rev it. But ocasionally it starts to rattle during idle. Netural, and clutch pedal out.

After I fixed the motor mount, the rattling got quieter/less frequent. It usually happens the harder my car is vibrating. I hope its not the clutch assembly.

BTW. My motor mount was completely crushed on the left side. It was riding metal on metal.

So now there are two brand new motor mounts on my car.

Oh snap, my name is Rob too, so when you said Rob, I thought you ment ME. Haha!

              Well anyways.

Maybe thats it? But when I took a bat, and pressed it upon the cat, the rattling was still there. The sheild seems to be on there solid enough.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just saying what I had said. So I'm making sure that the problem is what it is, even though I had done what I did.

Btw, the higher the revs the louder it gets. If I pop it into netural, it stops. then comes to and fro time to time.

When I'm at a stop light, the ratting is faint, and sometimes stops completely.

i think it might be the cat itself, but im not sure, give the cat a nice hit and see if it rattles

Whacked, hit, put a big towel on my arm and pushed up against, still rattles if revved, reguardless of status of clutch/shifter/gear any combo.

I have the same thing, not a rattle but a sort of knocking. all times except when the clutch is in. I've determined its a bearing in my clutch as well. Dunno for sure but my stethescope tells me so.

I was once told that a rattling from the transmission with the clutch pedal out is normal.. it shouldn't get worse as you rev however...
I know this sounds dumb, but have you checked all of you exhaust mounts? There's a mount that uses bolts that's right by your tranny.. On my car the bolts were gone, thus causing it to rattle... Just a thought,,, good luck!
