condensation on inside of trunk lid

We have had some hard rains lately. I opened the trunk to find condensation on the inside of the trunk lid. Carpet is dry all around.

Any ideas what might cause this? No water in the trunk anywhere else - no dampness on the lining at all.

Thanks for the useless response. THere is no water in the trunk anywhere else - under the batter, around the spare, by the jack - nowhere.

On really cold days back when I had a big hole in my door weatherstripping... I would get condensation on the inside of the driver side window. Maybe it has a hole in the trunk somewhere where water doesnt come in, but it lets air in. Just a thought. I hope MY post isnt useless... ;)

that post was absolutely useless. there is 2 air vents, one on each side behind the bumper, just incase you lock yourself in there. to me, it is just one of those things i have learned to live with on some E30s ive owned.

So this is a normal thing? I noticed this on my car recently as well.

When I just bought my car there was condensation in it too, but there was also a leak within my trunk. I figured it was my seals in my headlights so I swapped them out. I haven 't done a test through them yet so I'll have to see how they turn out from my next car wash.

right rear tail has a crack and has some water in it - could be contributing to it - getting replaced soon anyway.

Make sure you havent got any rust holes letting it in for starters, then check your tail light gaskets. One of mine is shot and the other has a spot of rust, both of which allow water in.

no rust holes, but the PS tail light and gasket are the likely source

check the two drain hoses where they connect to the plastic drain things on both sides of the car. the gasket on my driver side is worn out so spraying water between the bumper and shell results in water entering the trunk and pooling under the jack. on my list of things to replace. previous owner used lots of silicone to "fix" this. ugh

nothing seals the outside of the tailight from the inside of the trunk, exept for the lens and gasket, so if its cracked, and filling with water, when that water evaporates, some of that condensates on the inside of your trunk. simple.

your going to have to remove your entire trunk carpeting, you have a hole somewhere in your trunk that your not aware of, ive seen this on quit a few e30s. that condensation not from anything else

make sure you check underneath the plastic trim on the right side by the shock tower.
