The other day I got my system evacuated and recharged with R-12. The shop noted that the overall system tested well. After the evac and recharge they called and noted the resistor was broken and the fan was vibrating. They wanted $375 for parts (fan + resistor) and 2.5 hours of labor. So I noted I would take care of that on my own.
After doing a lot of research I have come up with a couple of options and just wanted to see if anyone had any preferences/recommendations
1) Stock Replacement of both resistor and aux fan - Somewhere around $200 in parts and pull and replace - easiest
2) SPAL 16 High Performance Pusher 2048, stock resistor + replace temp switch with a 80/88C switch to increase/assist cooling abilities - Around $190 in parts
3) Spal 16 Pusher (1517), stock resistor + replace temp switch with a 80/88C switch to increase cooling abilities - Around $160 in parts
Both of the Spal options are not only cheaper but much higher air flow. I know that these fans are also used with motor swaps to eliminate the mechanical fan. Swap is not in my immediate future, but might be an option down the line.
Seems like either one of the Spal options would be my better bet. I am leaning towards option 3 but wasn't sure if the upgraded Spal fan would be worth the extra $30 or just overkill.
Plan on using the stock aux fan wiring similar to how Bimmerteck did here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...1&postcount=57
