    Replacing engine bay insulation material

I am doing a color change and restoration on a '87 325 and have just about finished the engine bay. Does everyone replace the sound insulation material with OEM, or is there something better that does not break down and ends up acting like a sponge against the fire wall?

The best is the OE insulation mat. A new one should last another 20 years if there are no oil leaks. A reasonable substitute would be a couple of layers of Dynaliner (http://eastwood.com), but there is a lot of cutting and fitting involved. I used Dynaliner on my my restoration project and it worked well (see http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...oration&page=6)
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks for the feedback! I was planning on adding dynamat to the cab side of the firewall so OEM it is in the engine bay.
