Info on this SI Board modification.

Hi all, purchased a 1990 325is with an M50NV swap about a month ago.
I cracked open the original cluster to and found the SI batteries are on their way out. So I opened up to the spare that came with the car and found the batteries to be removed and a couple of wires soldered in there place. Sorry for the crappy cell pic

I've searched for info on something like this, but have found nada. Has anyone seen or done anything like this?

It's somewhat common.

Search "remote si battery" here and google.
