Long time listener, first time caller.. Gonna try to make a long story short. I have an 89is and about two months ago my oil pressure light began to shine at idle, very little at first but over the coarse of a few moments it came on and stayed on till about 1500 RPM. Took the car to a local mechanic and he determined that it was a failed oil pump, and that the head was pretty much fried. The engine became pretty noisy and I decided that rather than trying to rebuild or locate a used head I was gonna replace the engine with a used engine at about the same cost. Found an 80,000 mile engine about an hour away at a shop that rebuilds wrecked BMW's total price for the engine was 1514.00 dollars, this included new timing belt, tensioner, water pump, oil pan gasket and oil pump. He took the head off a 120,000 mile engine. I was very pleased with this engine when I got it back. Felt like I had gotten a great deal. Well about two weeks goes by and I start getting the light again, so back to the shop. His feeling was that the oil relief was bad and that it would need to be replaced which he did ( including a new oil pan gasket ) at no cost to me. Well he calls me and says that the light is still on and he feels that the head is bad, that I should pick the car up, and that he will put a reworked head with new cam, rocker arms, valves etc. again at no cost to me. The only problem is that it will take two weeks to have the head reworked and in the mean time he says it will not damage the engine, just the head to continue to drive it. Needless to say this makes me nervous. This car is my daily driver that I depend on to get me to work, kids to school and so forth. What would you do........
