My e30 stalled while driving and won't start

my 1990 325ic started making this rattling/grinding sound 3 days ago. Couldn't tell where the found was coming from. On my way to the shop today my car stalled while driving down a hill and won't start. When I crank it makes this weird grinding noise?

Any ideas before I get anuly raped by BMW to fix it

Sounds like the timing belt tensioner shit the bed.

Then maybe the timing belt went.

Any record of the timing belts last service?

kinda late respinse, but i found out that indeed the bolt in the middle of the tensioner pully cracked off, wobbles around for a week, eventually lost timing and bamb.....my head is destroyed in many itty bitty pieces, every valve was bent and rocker arms blew apart....

no worries though, gave me an excuse to swap in my S50 ;)
