Yes. For all intents the early b25 and b27 block are the same.

Late b25 blocks used different main bearings. (I have a late b25 block in my car)

      I don't know about the b20 and b23 blocks.

Lots of different M20 blocks around. The B20 and B23 blocks only have a 80mm bore size, they also lack the steam holes between the cylinders which aid cooling, good but not necessary. There is also a difference with some of the 5 series blocks- the dipstick goes through the oil pan, not through the block. This wont be a big deal for the US guys but we didn't get E30 etas over here so we have to use 5 series M20B27. Then there are changes like the main bearings...

Can't comment on iX block though

The IX block just has the dipstick in a different spot.

which would have to be filled and drilled if going into a rwd car cause of the different oil pan

B20 and B23 blocks are different as above, they have much smaller bore sizes for starters, they also use the distributor location on the side of the block (so they have a shaft from the oil pump for the distributor).
Just a little project im working on

um sort of, ALL blocks (that i have seen-E30/E34) have the shaft for the distributor, only there is a plug over the hole for cars that use the head mounted dizzy. Whether they have the dizzy on the side of the block or head comes down to whether they are L-jet or moronic, so the only difference I know of is the steam holes and bore size as I mentioned ealier.
