Newbie in need of some help!

Just recently bought a '87 325i. Car turns, but it dies if i dont hold down the accelerator for about 10 seconds. After that, it idles just fine and it wants to do the same when going from a stop in first. i feel like im burning the clutch in order to get it going.
im thinking its the O2 Sensor.
    any inputs?
coolant light is on at the overhead panel and temp. gauge is non-operational. No signs of overheat however
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
and i tried using the "search" bar but came up with nothing relevant

Here are some basic things to do...
    1. Have a shop perform a smoke test to find all vacuum leaks.
    2. Replace all fuel lines.
    3. Check fuel pressure and pumps at idle and running.
    4. Replace O2 sensor if it has not been replaced recently (life span is @ 100k miles).
    5. Timing belt and water pump should be replaced.
    6. Perform a valve adjustment and replace the valve cover gasket.
    7. Replace your SI board
    8. Clean the coolant sensor in the expansion tank with fine grit sand paper.
    9. Change fuel & air filter.
    10. Oil/filter change. Use 20W50 for Miami.

That should keep you busy for awhile.

    Have fun.
