    a/c question, expansion valve??

89 325is, PO said the air was cold but sat up for 6 months, the pressure is right, but compressor just comes on about every few minutes or so and only for a few seconds, i jumped the pressure switch for longer compressor run and no cold air at all. Do you think it's expansion valve?

hmmm, curious to see the replies on this as i'm not too knowledgeable on a/c components. If you need any parts of the system though i have them all sitting in a box at my shop!

What is the system charged with and what are the high and low side pressures (and ambient temp when the pressures are read)?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

There is a sticker saying its been converted to r134a, not sure of the extent of that...but I'll recheck pressures and post later.

No, I think you are just slightly low on freon.

Don't refill it with one of those "recharge kits" that has 134a and oil. Borrow or buy the stuff to fill it with pure r134, and only a teeny bit should do it. Maybe 1/3 of a can.

Well, seems its blowing ice cold now, i guess the pressure switch is bad, after jumping the wires to run the compressor long enough and taking it down the highway, it really started to blow cold!!

Based on your last statement I would also guess your switch is bad. Is it always cold on the highway or is it completely random? If random, then replace the switch. If always cold on the highway then it is the compressor or aux fan.

The only way to be 100% certain is to check pressures.
