    Cruise Control for '91 318is

noticed many other ’91 318is owners here..

For clarifications sake: I’ve gathered that this model was never factory equipped with cruise control. Also gathered that retrofitting cruise control components is next to impossible, and that no one manufactures an aftermarket set-up for this model as well.

I once ran across a story of a guy who persuaded some shop in Iowa City, IA to install an aftermarket unit in his car. (this was years ago. the shop was very reluctant to do it.. but in the end, it did work)

Have been to a recommended local ‘alarm/stereo/electronic accessories’ installation shop here in Madison and they indicated that ‘they do indeed install cruise control systems, but units for the ’91 318is are not available’.

..so mostly fishing for input/guidance/comments on the subject

cruise is over rated... plus you only use it on long drives, and on long drives you get tired, which is exactly why you shouldn't use cruise. so really i think no cars should have cruise because its too easy to relax.

point taken. my deal is that i often do 3 hr drives to another state to see family..

and w/out cruise control the speedometer 'wanders' upward

so mostly i see/use it as a ticket deterrent

The factory M20/S14 Cruise should work fine, although you will need to create a way to mount the factory cable *the S14 one may bolt up directly)

Its a pretty straightforward install, just need to tap a few areas.

It is possible. My car has one I don't use and I will be taking it out soon.
The cable bracket source is unknown to me, perhaps some ETK hunting is in order for you.
The actual wiring itself is not too complicated, however you will most likely have to add the switch for the clutch.
The last bit would be the stalk housing on the steering column. You would need one with a protrusion.

Next time I am under the dash, I'll see if the harness that the cruise plugs in to was modified. Mine seems to be from an e30m3. Send me a PM so I can keep you in mind if I decide to sell it after I take it out.

ahh its overrated. at first i was dissapointed but after a 3 hour drive i forgot that i didn't have CC. you don't really need it...it can be nice but not needed.

cruise control is overrated. The only time I have ever used mine was when I was testing it out to see if it worked. It worked, and I never used it again...
