Sounds like I'm dragging a chain?

I can only hear it at low speeds, in or out of gear, no change when turning. M20 engine, so no timing chain. Like the title says, just sounds like a chain being lightly dragged across the ground. Any ideas?

im thinking brake related. check out your rotors and pads for funky wear or dirt

Are your brake pads in good shape?

Driveshaft seems to be in order, just had it on the lift the other day and nothing was out of the ordinary or seemed to be dragging (heat shield and such). Wheel bearing should be more of a rumble or grind sounding like mud tires than this sound. I have noted that the brakes do need an overhaul. The pads don't seem overly low, but the rotors have a bit of a lip on the edge.

not that i can notice. I really only notice it under about 15-20mph, and more while pulling into a parking spot.

If the sound changes with a light application of the brakes or parking brake, the cause will probably lie in the brakes. If it doesn't change it will some rotating part. A bent backing plate or a bad wheel bearing can make this sort of noise.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

if its low speed only brakes.

bearings get worse with speed. driveshaft does in a certain rpm range.

sounds a bit crazy but check your muffler area. specifically if its the pipes, tips, and whether or not there is any play/interference. had that happen with my muffler. one of the hangers were not secure so when it is at lower speeds/idle when, there would be more vibrations

Could be brake backing plate is slightly bent and dragging. Happened to me.

have you checked for a chain attached to the body, which might make contact with the ground?

sorry, i like to have fun with noise concerns over the interwebs

Check your dust shield on your center support... (On your drive shaft) those get loose some times and will make a ching ching chinging sound as it spins on your drive shaft as your drive shaft spins. If you didn't know to look at the dust shield when you were checking out your drive shaft you totally woulda missed it, just by looking you normally can't tell that they're loose. You'll have to touch it with your finger to see if its loose and will spin freely. If its loose, I bet that's your noise.
