So here's the deal. I was rocking along with my M62 swap and now I'm at the wiring portion. I started with a 97 540i with a 6 speed manual I found for a donor car. I had everything I needed to finish, the EWS module, DME, antenna, key and everything. I live in what I thought was a pretty good area, and I had a gutted car just parked outside my house. Being that no one could drive it away, I left my only key in the car.. So I come home one day and my e39 is gone. Kind of a bummer I thought at first (it wasn't much use because I got the good parts out of it. Then it hits me, the key is in the car and I have no way of getting another one!
So my question is this, is there a way to bypass an EWS 3 system or am I screwed? I have been researching this for a while and I guess there may be some way to bypass an EWS 2 system with some cutting and joining of wires. Is there a way to do this with the more current system? Otherwise I have been told I am posed with two other options. One, reflash the ECU to delete the EWS system. Two, convert to an OBD 1 setup with a very early 90s (pre EWS) M60 wiring setup with a new wiring harness and ECU.
Does anyone know which option would be best? I think the delete or convert options may get spendy. Has anyone had this problem before?
Thanks for the help.
