    Odometer suddenly reading high

Two weeks ago, I swapped a used "i" exhaust with Superspring cat-back onto my eta, including a new oxygen sensor. I thought I had found the holy grail of economy mods, because when I filled up today the mileage (gallons put in divided by odometer reading) was 30.6 mpg for city driving--I'd been getting 17-19 on the same commute.

But then I watched while driving around and realized, based on maps and rough distances I already knew, that my odometer is suddenly reading 50-100% high (i.e., an indicated 5 miles is actually about 2.5-3). What could have caused this? Search didn't turn up anything similar except one guy who found that he had a refaced metric speedometer. I know that's not the case here--nothing changed except the new exhaust.

There isn't much that go wrong with that instrument. If the speedometer is reading correctly, the problem will have to be in the electronics of the odometer.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That's what I was afraid of: I'd reflowed the solder joints on the speedo unit a year ago to fix a nonfunctioning speedo and odo. But now the speedometer seems to be reading correctly; it's just the odometer that's messed up.
