    high pitch screatch

    my spare cabrio had a t.belt & w/p done 3 years ago.
the car saw 600 miles worth of driving after that and it's been sitting for 3 years.

now, i started her up and there's this loud scream, very high pitch, like a whistle, it comes from below distributor area.

so far looked at distributor, rotor, t.belt and other belts.
there's no visible scratches anywhere nor any other obvious binding damage.

so, i', wondering if it can be a dried up/rusty timing belt tensioner bearing.

can i just swap tensioner without having to replace t.belt all over again ?

    thanks,
    Frank

Could be one of the serpentine belts.

The e30s have V belts not serpantine belts.

What about alternator bearings? Put a screwdriver on the alt case and see if it is coming from there.

If it was the tensioner you may as well replace the belt too (it's fairly cheap) as you have to reomove all that crap anyways to get to it.

I'm still trying to figure out why you would do all that work to a car only to drive it 600 miles and let it sit 3 years.. 3 YEARS! I mean shit.. you could have driven it aleast once or twice a month to the store or something to keep her in good shape.
