    M20 Oil level light

My check lights been on for years even with it full. So i decided to finally replace the sensor but no luck. Even disconnected the battery and tried again, lights still on. All the wiring looks good. Anyone know what it could be?

Edit- i only cleaned the plugs with a shop towel...should i spray some electrical cleaner in it?

This sound a wing fault or a fault in the check panel. You can check for continuity from the check panel connector to the sensor connector to if it is a wiring fault.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I have also herd you should clean the sensor in a gasoline bath. I have the same issue as you, but I have not yet attempted a fix. (mine only lights up after some time driving though) My coolant light also goes on every time I start the car even though the level is fine.

Do you guys think replacing the oil pan to body ground cable would help these issues?

Found the source that suggested cleaning with gasoline: http://84.45.115.78/e30zonewiki/inde...ts#Check_Panel

I actually just put a brand new one in so cleaning it would be unnecessary. Not sure on the ground but i think if it went out your car would have trouble starting etc

            Okay--update:

I used my early model check panel to try to test but all it did was leave the CHECK light on on the cluster and the check panel didn't even light up. After unplugging mine twice the light still hasn't turned off. Something I forgot to do to the sensor before installing? Were there plugs in the oil holes? I looked at it briefly before installing but didn't think I had to do any real prep other than for the o-ring.

I'm with jlevie on the wiring fault. Check the wire for continuity.

                    he no es has.

i'll give it a look though. the early model check panel gave me no luck although it was nice to see every light off :D. but the check light stayed on so i may end up going to a junkyard and getting another late model nonairbag check panel to try if i can find one. i'm not great with electronics but i'm sure i can find a friend to help me test things. i'll have the car on jack stands this weekend doing my tie rods so i'll give the wiring a closer look. but from what i saw when i replaced the sensor and the other day following the wires up through the harness, they were all intact and looked fine.

sorry for the paragraph there, but if it is wiring, what would need to be done? resoldering a contact? replacing the actual wire throughout the harness?

Best bet is just to replace the entire wire through the harness if there is no continuity from the sensor to the check panel.

I edited this post as I accidentaly said replace the harness on my first post.
