1988 325i Electrical and Starting Issues

    Hi All,

Been haunting these boards for a while and finally had a decent reason to post. Been searching for a cheap e30 to daily for the next couple years, and stumbled across a cheap 325i with a few issues:

I emailed the seller, and he said 3 of the windows don't always work, the dash lights and gas gauge and speedometer occasionally don't work as well, and it needs some gas to start unless it is cold outside.

Any idea what could be causing these issues and if they're related? I've done some searching around but can't seem to find threads with similar symptoms. Ideally it's a cheap fix that a noob mechanic such as myself with a modest collection of tools could tackle. I have asked the guy for a little more detailed info and am waiting on a response, but thought I'd see if anyone could diagnose the problem with what little I've already been told.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Window switches and clusters are pretty common problem spots for e30s most likely replacing them or possibly just making sure the connections are not loose would solve the issue

Vacuum leak is the biggest worry here. Next would be checking the instrument cluster for cracks and SI board/batteries for defects.

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I'm going to try and take a look at it this weekend and see if it's worth troubleshooting.

Edit: Damn, people move fast, car sold the next day. Thanks anyway for the input, appreciate it.
