Diff leaking? Pic included

So I looked under my carand found that it was leaking. Is the diff leaking? Or is the the axle?

There are two lines that are being sprayed. The leaks appear to be coming from where the red arrows are marked. The bolts and where the axle mates with the diff.

From what I have seen in the past, a leaking diff leaks more toward the diff, and not this far into the axle.

Please help.

Those are your axles leaking thick black grease. Have you recently done anything to them or did they just start spewing?

That is grease from the CV joint, not fluid from the differential. New boot kits (use the BMW parts) and fresh grease should fix them.

Just swapped my drum brakes with these disc trailing arm. Bought them used.

I will do the boot thing, but I hope it isn't too difficult.

Its easy but is tricky, it helps to have two people sometimes.

It looks like the bolts might not be tight enough. Appears to be leaking at the mating surface and from beneath the bolts themselves.

I have had those bolts loosen up on me before on my e24. Make sure they are tight.

In fact upon further inspection, some of the bolts appear to be backed out more than others. DEFINITELY check this before you continue driving!

The bolts don't make a seal tho.

But yes torque them sums of bitches to 65 ft lbs

In a round about way, they do make a seal. If there is grease getting in the void where the bolt should be (but it's not because it's backed out) then it will come out at the bolt head. Had this exact same thing happen on my e24 race car, and now it's part of the pre-race checklist.
