    Fixing power steering leak

If I replace the clamps at the top of the two low pressure power steering fluid hoses, is there any concern about bleeding the power steering system? If so, how is it done? Also is replacing the two low pressure hoses very difficult?

    Thanks

your talking about the two clamps that connect to the resivour i assume?
if thats so you should not need to bleed the system of air because you most likely will not lose fluid out of the rack or the pump.

    but just in case.

to bleed power steering you have the car running at idle and crank the wheel from side to side, just before the it hits the lock. do that a couple times and make sure the fluid is top up and thats all you need to do to bleed the power steering system.

    hope that helps.

yes, the clamps off the resivour. i plan to do that first and if that doesn't stop the leak, then replace the hoses, because the last time i had it into the shop they said both hoses were leaking. they wanted $400...

so if i replace the hoses, is it a straight forward deal, (relatively) easy access, etc.? then do the bleeding technique you mention?

mine just started leaking worse, I replaced both hose clamps with screw on type instead of crimp on and replaced the reservoir for kicks since it was off anyway. It hasn't leaked a drop since. This was 2-3 months ago on my 318is.
