    Bad fuel pump?

Recently my car started having troubles starting, thought it was the weather cooling off. Now I have to crank it for about 30 seconds before it starts. Once started it runs like normal.

I chased the fuel pump electrical all the way to the pump and I'm getting good voltage. But I don't hear the pump at all, had the rear seat out and nothing. I'm more confused about how it's running if the pump is bad. Any ideas?

Test fuel pressure to make sure. T a line into the fuel supply line (near thermostat) and see if you are getting 3 bar.

My old car I couldnt hear the pump either.

TRE fuel pumps I hear are a nice alternative to OEM

Fuel pump is supposed to be on for only a few seconds when the ignition switch is in second position then it is off so you won't be hearing anything if you are not quick. If you started the car you should be able to hear the pump or feel it with your hand right on top of the pump assembly (you did remove the cover, right?)

I would also check the FPR. Long starting can be due to weak or bad FPR. Check fuel pressure as mentioned by 5toes.

Had the cover off, engine running, couldn't feel anything. I'm kinda thinking its the pressure regulator cuz once it starts, it runs fine. It's just weird, I used to hear the pump running and now I don't.

              Pressure regulator or fuel pump?

What year/model? I'm assuming you've got a pick-up low pressure pump in the tank and a high pressure pump in-line?

1987 325i convertible. I looked under the driver side in front of the rear wheel and theirs the fuel filter (replaced within the year) and some other little thing that looks like the pressure regulator in the engine compartment, no pump. So I'm assuming I only have the in tank pump.

When was the last time the engine enjoyed a tune-up?

If in the stock configuration, your car has a low pressure transfer pump in the tank and a high pressure pump above the fuel filter.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Ill take another look once the weather clears up, but i think Im gonna tech/change the fuel pressure regulator first since its cheaper and seems more like what could be the problem.
