Gas tank draining?

Is there a way to drain the gas out of my fuel tank? Im going to install a chip, but im not sure if there is 91 octane gas in it currently and do not want to take the chance of there not being.
Is there a way to drain the gas out of the tank without having to take the tank off?

Unbolt the gas tank drain plug (right side?).

Careful, it likes to strip and probably has never been unscrewed before.

There is a drain plug in the tank if you look. Mine's on the passenger side. Basically if you look at the tank it's right there in front of you. I'd drive most of the gas out if it's full though. Kind of hard to get a 14+ gallon pan under the car. Or you could run a small "drill pump" and pump the gas out into cans. That's pretty time consuming if it's full.

Wait a week until you are out of gas, fill up with 91, then instal chip.

There are other ways, but this would be easiest.

Never done it myself but I know you can buy Octane boosters at most auto parts stores. You add them to a tank like fuel injector cleaner.

Not sure that this would be what you need but it might be worth a shot. Do you know if the car has a full tank of gas?

You will not be able to bring 87 octane up to 91 with just octane boosters.

Not quite a fraction but I'm not sure it's really worth the hassle.

As others have suggested, just run the gas down untill you can add a higher octane gas in the Spring.

yea ill probably just wait. I need to re furbish my wheels, so atleast ill have something to do over christmas break.

Another way you could do it if you are really itching to get that chip in is by using your fuel pump to drain it. Take out your fuel pump, hook up lines to each end (one into the tank and one into a container for the gas), then hook up 12 volts to the pump and let it go. Process explained below in picture.



BTW - Don't use a garbage can that has a hole in it. :D

Leave the fuel in it with a bottle of Stabil also in it. It's not worth the hassle, or Start the car and let the fuel burn off.
