    Blower Motor Retaining Clip

Last night I went ahead and started replacing my blower motor as it had died on me at the beginning of summer.

Getting the retaining clip off took a lot of effort.. I ended up prying it off with a screw driver. After cleaning everything out and checking for any issues inside the blower motor housing, I put the new motor in. As hard as getting the clip off was... it was impossible to get back on.

Basically what Im asking is if there is a better way of getting that clip on.. cuz as of right now my blower motor is held in place by some wire that I wrapped around it and twisted together. Need I say the least it is not a permanent fix.

Any one have any input? Also.. the fan is slightly cracked in one spot from taking it out and putting it in too many times.. Any one ever have to repair one of these fan blades? What did you use? Should I just buy a new one?

    :-x

Let me provide a little more info.. I was hooking the retaining clip to the small metal bracket that holds the motor housing together (behind the motor)

Is this the right place to hook it? Should I hook it into the plastic just slightly above the metal piece? Please Halpppp haha :D

              fan

I used JB weld on my fan to get back on the road. I knew it would be out of balance and it was on High speed. I stepped up and got a New one because the cage plastic gets brittle with age Joe

Sorry to bring a dead thread back to life everyone, but my wire finally failed and now my motor sounds like a speed boat. Lol I just ordered a new one from Bavarian auto and am still having troubles sourcing a retaining clip.

Learning how to deal with the bitch clip and placement of the blower motor can be a real frustrating experience. Of course it's easy once you know how to do the mechanical magic trick. What amazes me is that this the best the BMW engineers could come up with? How simple this all would be with a few well placed bolts. In, out and done.

Yeah I took mine out and re installed it in about 30 minutes. It was very simple, because I had done it before.... Unsuccessfully. I has to replace the replacement after I broke the fan. I just positioned the fan in the housing then pushed the clip in the top part of the motor til I felt it lock in, then snapped the lower part down.

Had the exact same experience. Guess we learn from our failures.
