    cold start problem

I have a 1986 325e and when ever i start the thing first thing in the morning or after having cooled down for more the 3 hours or so i have to add gas to keep the car running for the first minute or so.
After the initial minute i can let go of the gas but the idle becomes low and fluctuates between 500 and 600 RPM. Then after about 5 minutes of that idle goes up to normal and everything is fine.

So far i've taken out the cold start valve to see if its squirting, and indeed it was so i know its not that....so any suggestions are welcome as to what this problem might be.
