    Windows stuck

Can't get the windows up or down. No switches seem to be responding.

    What can cause this?

Are the switches lighting up? If not, you may have pushed the window lock button. If it's not that you should check and make sure all your window switches and your window lock connections are not loose.

Have you done anything to your car lately? (ie mods or repairs)

It could be either the fuse, or maybe the switches are bad.

A continuity tester is your best friend here... See what power you have and where it is so you can troubleshoot it easier

Recently replaced my transmission. I had the battery disconnected for a while and after reconnecting it they didn't work. It's possibly the window lock button. It looks pressed in but stuck. I just have to pull it out and clean it.

What fuse is the for the Windows? My Haynes book is useless for specific stuff.

The fuse is good, the window lock button is disengaged. Windows still not responding. Any other suggestions?

If your window switch is lighting up then its good (if its a lighted unit of course). Take your door panel off and check the window motor. Its easy to do. Ive had one motor go out on me and now my passenger side is shot. Very possible it could be a loose wire though so make sure to check. Start with the window switch itself and track it all the way to the window motor and check everything in between. Hope that helps. Good luck.

P.S... get a bentley manual, you wont regret it.

I dont think it's the motor as none of them will work. It may just be something electrical but I'm having a difficult time tracing it. None of the switches light up either.

sounds like they were working before replacing your trans?

if that's the case then this might not apply to your exact situation, but i'll still mention this anyways as this acutally helped me fix my window problem.

it's worth adjusting the regulator assembly in my opinion. i bought my car, both windows did not work at all, switches were good, power was getting to the motors, motors had good grounds. i removed the glass and removed the regulators, lubed and adjusted things and installed everything back. after that both windows work properly and have for over a year and a half.

Use the Bentley for this. It has a nice schematic at the back

If I remember correctly, the window circuit breaker is simply two wires for the last e30 I had to deal with a similar issue with. Just jump them with an inline wire see if that makes a difference.

Is the relay getting power? There is a main wire that feeds the windows with power. If you look in the Bentley schematic, it identifies the color. You will then want to take a look in the d.side wheel well, at around 10:30, you will see a "junction box." This is where you can test for current to the windows.

If this wire isn't getting power, dive into your fusebox...check the relays. If your blower motor doesn't work as well and If the relay's don't get power at all, check your starter wires. One wire feeds them with power. Check your unloader relay if your car has one as well.

                    Good luck

Something similar happened to me last night...
                      Parked the car,windows were fine...
                      Got back,started driving,no lighted switches,no power windows!
So,I thought it was a fuse and stopped to check.
The fuse was alright,I re started the engine and now all is fine!:drink:

-Take off your shifter boot and remove the electrical connections to the switch. Jump the termanals and see if the windows work. This will show you if you have power to the switch or not.
-Ghetto, I know, but it works.

I'm going to look into the central locking. It seems to have stemmed from that. While my car was on the chopping block the drivers side door was locked and for a while we weren't able to get the doors unlocked. Ever since then the windows nor central locking have worked.

                              Nothing yet. I'm clueless.

I can't seem to get power to the window. I thought it may have been the window motor so I replaced that, no luck. I checked and it seems like all the wiring is correct and connected. The switches don't illuminate so it looks like they're not getting any power. I just need to go through it with a continuity tester and check it one at a time until I spot the source of the problem. I hate wiring.
