    Taking a part fuel sensor

I swapped out my fuel sensor (early model) on my vert with a known working one. Anyway, I want to take apart the old one and see why it is binding up on the wires (it appears to be getting caught up). I took off the small brass nut on the bottom - what next? Does the aluminum cover come off and if so, how? Just experimenting, but hoping not to break it.

    Thanks, Marc

I looked at it some more over the weekend and showed my fuel sensor to an experience BMW tech with 20 years of experience and three E30s in his stable. The aluminum casing has some pressed indentations at the top... making clear it was not intended to be removed to repair the float or clean the internal filaments. Other older BMWs I have seen have been accessible in this regard... but the E30's is not easily.

If you have other thoughts or experiences - please post.
