A: remember that the nut for the Clutch fan is REVERSE threads. Then what I found to be the best is use a pair of monster channel-locks to hold the pully.

Put a wrench on it and whack that sumbitch. Should come right off.

how did u even get the fan off with out taking the clutch off? wanna make a diy for the wiring? i think it could have just been wired to that switch on the side of the rad.

Its interesting how you shaved off the fins on the valve cover, and even more interesting how you painted the intake manifold blue

yeah i duno what i was thinking about the blue... haha... im going to get them all powdercoated this summer. i would'v wired it from the temp switch, but i wanted to be able to adjust the temp for when it comes on depending on summer or winter, and if im going to be driving it hard. i can also wire in a toggle switch to keep it on all the time without touching the rest of the wiring. its a pretty nifty unit. i will work on a write up as soon as i get back from the family christmas.

edit: and as for removing the fan, there is 4 10mm bolts that hold the fan onto the fan clutch, i just took those off and took the fan out.

WERD. Thats the only way to do it. You'll want a slim 32mm wrench.

Did you notice any performance gain...

Did you notice any performance gain from replacing the fan. I'd read (theoretically) this mod can get you up to 5hp on the low end. Any truth?

Also, which fan did you go with? what is its CFM rating and how many amps does it draw?

                Thanks

on the E36's the fan delete is a very common mod and has been done for years. You put in lower thermostat, lower auxilary fan switch and remove the stock fan and fan clutch (no need for electric fan) and you do feel a noticed difference in the overall engine behavior. engine is much more free revving. The dyno gains have only been 1-3HP which is so little its impossible to determine wheter the gains were just dyno fluctuations or the fan. However, I really felt an over all difference, especially on the top end. Im definitely doing this mod for sure.

for the second or third time since ive owned the car, i just tried to take my fan off too. couldnt get it. When looking at the front of the car, is it supposed to turn counter clockwise? I think thats right but i cant get it no matter how much stuff i jam in the pulley

There is a special tool for this job. It grabs two of the screws on the pulley so you can hold it and turn against it. I got mine from a place called economy auto parts, if thats any indication. Otherwise just put a screw driver down between two screws on the pulley and turn.

I wish I could find an electric fan to fit between my M20 and radiator. Instead, I need to pull my AC condensor to get mine in! lol

                        Nice fit! :)

just make yourself a tool. get the bolt pattern on the pulley and drill the holes in a piece of steel. bolt it up and tap the skinny wrench. it will come right off.
