Not sure if it's a similar issue, but I once had a nightmare of a time with one of my taillights.. and the issue was resolved by using a dealer/OE bulb instead of a "parts store" bulb.

fuckin drove me nuts trying to resolve it..

Try swapping left and right bulbs and see if the issue "follows" the bulb.

Socket might have gone bad. Had to change out one on my diving board this summer. Test the plug for the correct signal then test the plug with a bulb in place for proper resistance.

But if you watch it works fine with the Hazzards.

That could be a bad turn signal switch.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I've had the same issue on an e28 that I used to have and it was the socket itself. The bulb being replaced wouldnt fix it. Which you may want to first try? It was the front socket and what I used was a battery cleaner to clean rust off the socket itself. The battery cleaner is nothing more than a wire brush that I could stick down in the socket. You can buy them at walmart. It could be the rear one if water is getting in the trunk so don't be upset if you have to do both to repair the problem.

I was thinking something along those lines too.

                  Try this,

I don't see how it could be the switch, its just that, a switch. The relay controls the blinking and its the same relay that controls both right and left so that isn't likely to be the problem either.

Did you change anything before the problem started?

If the switch has a high resistance in either side, you will get a fast blink on that side.

Me and my dad tinkered with the tail light for some reason one time, and this happened to me once on the road. Never happened again though. I hope yours is that temporary.

I have this problem - my front left blinker doesn't work at the moment. The rear does and it's going fast but the front bulb is still lit up solid when the lights are on. I think I screwed something up when I installed my front left speaker because there is a birdsnest of wires under the dash/steering column and I hope I didn't bump the wrong one. Anyone know where these plug in underneath the dash? I'm about to take it to a mechanic but would rather not pay for something somewhat simple.
