WHere do you put jackstands in the rear?

Hi, i got some new jackstands, but im not sure where to put them when i jack up the rear end of my car. Seems like all the axles are on angles, and the only real good spot is where i currently have the jack placed to jack the damn thing up..
I do no thave acces to a lift, so im stuck with the jack stands, but just where do i put them on the axle? or, if not the axle, where do i place them?

Sounds like a dumb question but there didnt seem to be any good spots to place them when i lift the car.

    Thanks,
    Mitch

what kinda cushion pads are ya'll using? I hate it when the jackstand scrapes off the undercoating or dents the underbody.

A folded up hand towel, although I think Griot's or one of those other uber-expensive doo-dad places has urethane jack and stand pads available.
