    Washer Reservoir & Cap Discrepancy

I wanted to clean up some things in the engine bay, and the nasty looking washer reservoir cap installed by the previous owner was really bothering me. I looked up the original part on RealOEM and what I ended up receiving was this.

The thing though is, that doesn't fit at all. Did BMW redesign the washer fluid reservoir at some point as well as the cap? Is there a different part number for the cap that I should be looking for?

Try looking it up under a different model e30 (not an m42 powered car). I bet the cap you got is for an e36.

Hmm, I just looked at the same diagram for an M20 and an M10 powered car and they're all still giving me the same cap :(

When I searched on this forum, I saw other caps, they're white colored and look exactly like the one in the diagram. Does anyone know what part number they are? I've tried googling all four possible part numbers that came up on RealOEM but they all come up as the piece I already have.

Edit: I figured it out! Well, I made it work. You can cut off the little bit that interferes and then it fits perfectly.Cut this off.

They don't sell the old white one anymore. That's the one you get now.

Or you could paint the washer reservoir black to match
Just make sure to put a piece of tape vertically so the line underneath it doesn't get painted, so you see the washer fluid level

Here is a pic of mine

^When he says "it doesn't fit" I don't think he's talking about that it doesn't match in color, he's saying it wont fit on the hole.

Yup, it was a physical fitment issue. I actually like the black on white now that I cut that little bit off. I'm a little embarrassed that it didn't occur to me earlier, but now it's out here for someone to find in case they run into the same thing.
