    flywheel for the m42

Can you lighten the flywheel for the m42?.

yes. but the more you lighten it the more it will vibrate. when i do my clutch i plan on doing this. you can also use the M20 flywheel with some starter mods.

The M42 flywheel is a dual mass type and from what I know it is not possible to remove weight from it.

You can buy a lightweight aluminium flywheel for about $700+ USD or do the rather complicated M20 flywheel conversion.

What I did was do the M40 flywheel conversion which is a conventional flywheel about 7 lbs lighter. This is the simplest and cheapest conversion as all you need is the M40 flywheel, bolts and clutch kit. Unfortunately the M40 engine wasn't available in the US so you would need to get onbe in from another country.

From my experience there is noticably more vibration but only at certain times, like accelerating at very low rpm in too high a gear. Engine response seems better and as the engine speeds up and slows down quicker it makes for a quicker upchanges.

o yes, i forgot about the M40 route.
but you can do the M20 conversion and drop a significant amount of wait because its single mass. it is complicated tho... or you can get the m42 wheel lightend, im not sure how much you can lighten the M42 wheel tho. its somthing i have yet to look into...
