    Installing m3 lsd question

I would like to get the m3 lsd for my car and have found a good price on one.
Just curious tho, does the lsd drop right in or is there a bunch of shit with computers and what-not involved? Seems like there would need to be some sort of computer there to let the car no when one side is losing traction so it can give more power to the side with traction? Im really confused about this, any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Mitch

    What's it from a E46 M3? ;)

No computer shit at all. It is a clutch type LSD that is purely mechanical. Just plug in the speedo sensor that is already in the m3 diff and you'll be good.

Its not traction control, its limited slip. It uses a clutch like 2002maniac said. It is all mechanical. If it had traction control, more than likely it would cut the throttle like in newer BMW's and most cars with traction control. All it does is use the ABS computer to sense that a wheel is spinning faster than it should be pretty much and cuts throttle to compensate.

Look at the 318is diffs as well. They have possibility of having LSD 4.10 units like the M3. If it's not LSD, it's still a 4.10.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Dont wanna use a small case 4.10 from a 318 in a 325. Get one from an m3 or a late model 325i auto. Those were both "large" case 4.10s

Thats just the word on the street. I dont know from experience. Everyone says that the small case 4.10 from the 318's wont take the torque from the M20 very well. I mean, the small case WILL bolt right up but its not the best solution.

Its just the word on the street that small case diffs will die sooner than medium case ones that come in the m3's and 325's. Soo... it might be alright.
