    Fuel pump stopped suddenly?

Is it common for the oem pump to die suddenly without whirring and spitting loudly for a few weeks/days/months in advance?

        How's the relay? Fuse?
Those will cause the fuel pump to be dormant, but not dead.

If the tank has been run dry the fuel pump has been running without lubrication and cooling - it won't like that at all.

Pull up the back seat and give the plate over the pump a whack with a rubber mallet while your friend cranks it over.
