    Manual Window conversion

Is it worth doing this? besides being more reliable does it have any other benefits. Weight reduction? Just curious...

Weight reduction would be minimal. The more popular swap is going from early model mechanisms to late model ones. The late model ones are a better design.

A late model crank version? I have an 1988 325is with power and I was thinking about converting.

Another perk to having manual crank windows is being able to operate them without the car being on, can't tell you how many times I turn my e30 off only to have to put my key back in and turn it back on so somebody can put their window up(4 door)

I was taking about electric windows, retrofitting late model into an early model.

            Random question...

I know that late and early model electric windows are not interchangeable e.g. if you want to upgrade from an early style to a late style you need to swap EVERYTHING including the actual glass. (I could be wrong)

What about converting to manual windows? Is the glass compatible with early or late or both?

Crank windows were only found in early cars so you'd need early glass to go with them.

One disadvantage is having to reach over 10 miles to adjust the passenger window. I do love my manual conversion though, makes me smile just thinking about them. People are always asking if its a sport evo because it has manual windows and I'm like please, do these windows look thin to you? nah, nobody asks or cares.
