When I had a mess of wires with my aftermarket radio my dash and cluster lights went out. Now that I got everything connected correctly, I am still having the same issues. No lights in the cluster and HVAC area. I checked all fuses and did some searching, but nothing seems to create a solution. What I found though is a power wire was connected to a ground wire which I think fried something. But what could it have fried?

Had this same issue. After much probing and consulting of the Wiring Diagram I determined that my headlight switch dimmer control was completely shorted causing no dash lights or HVAC lights. Went to the yard and pulled a switch from an e30. Installed it and Viola ! Fixed ! If you have a spare swap it in and observe the results. Search forum for wiring diagram for your vehicle and use a multimeter if this simple swap does not resolve it.
