Car takes many tries to start

I went out to run some errands today and I was having trouble starting my car. I turned off my car 3 different times and every time I came back to the car to start it, it would not start immediately. When I would try to start the car nothing would happen at all, the engine wouldn't begin to crank or anything. After taking breaks I would retry and on the 10th or so try the car would crank right up and start immediately. I figured it was a problem with the battery, but it would always start after a few tries so I don't know what's going on. Anyone?

    Thanks

the first time it happened was when i got gas.. would that have any effect on the fuel pump?

edit: it would atleast try to turn over if it was the fuel pump though.. wouldn't it?

check your ground on the battary.... also the starter may be on it's way out, does this problem only occur after you've driven the car aways? if it starts fine in the mornign but not after you've driven chances are the starter is dying
