e30 acting up after a wash

ok well i washed the car at lunch today. The normal wash, just the outside, did not open hood etc.

Well going to leave 4 hours later and when i try to crank it, nothing happens. Well i jump pins 11 and 14 and she fires right up. Well i walk away for a min. and the car is off when i return.

After i jump it again she will not idle at all. When i rev it, it sounds and feels fine but as soon as the throttle plate closes she dies.

Any insight will be greatly thanked. Im hoping if some thing by chance got wet it will be dry tom.

Since the car started when you jumped the pins in the diagnostic connector, the car wash is unlikely to have anything to do with the failure to start. That sounds more like a problem with the ignition switch or something in the path between the ignition switch and the starter. In a like manner the idle problem is unlikely to have been caused by the wash.

Its the p/r/n switch that caused this.......but now can you buy just that switch?

Im going to bypass it but will there be any effect on the idle......i guess i have another bad icv so ill get to that.

Now i want have reverse lights tho if i bypass it.

I haven't checked the IPB, but I think the switch is available separately

Turned out to be a bad p/r/n switch and the idle issue was the dme went bad also......lol

car is back up and running just like before now.

The selector for the automatic transmission has a switch assembly containing two switches. One engages when in reverse to turn on the backup lights. The other engages with in Park or Neutral to enable the starter.
