    Gas gage problems

i have an e30, my gas gage has stop working 2 months ago. I was told that it was my si board, so i got a whole new cluster with very similar miles... I plug it all in and it still does not work! (Also the bulb was out on the gas/mph side, the orange one) The weird thing is that my gas light will still pop on??? Thanks

The gas gauge does not depend on the SI board. The low warning light is just a switch in the right hand level sensor and is independent of the gauge. The gauge not working can be a problem with the level sensor(s). Early 325 cars and all 318 cars have a single sensor in the right side of the tank. Late 325's have a sensor on the right side and one on the left connected in series.

You can test a sensor with an ohmmeter. Remove the sensor from the tank, all all the fuel to drain, and check resistance with the sensor upright (empty tank), and upside down (full tank). The resistance upside down should be zero and rightside up should 60 ohms.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

so your saying to take out the back seat and pull up a hand sensor? what one is the sensor? Last when testing it i must pull it out?

It's going to be a lot easier to turn upside down out of the car.
